The Shopping Cart Isn’t Working. What do I do?

Please note that “cookies” must be enabled in your browser for the shopping cart to function properly. If you’re not sure how to enable them, just contact us and we’ll be happy to take your order manually.

Isn’t cotton a Natural product anyway?

Do not be misled. Cotton IS a natural fibre but just because a label states cotton, it is not always totally natural. There are more chemicals used on conventional cotton than on any other crop. Chemicals are used to grow, harvest and process conventional cotton. Chemicals are then used to make the conventional cotton fabric ‘easy care’, ‘wrinkle free’, ‘down proof’ etc.

How can I be certain that the products I order and receive are not treated with the chemicals in conventional cotton products?

Always look for and ask whether the cotton is “CERTIFIED ORGANIC”.

How will my goods be packaged?

We wrap all of our bed linen in true biodegradable cellophane, (cellulose film), not plastic that looks like cellophane. As so many people these days suffer with petrochemical sensitivities we try to avoid plastic products wherever it is possible to do so.

Our pillows, quilts, mattresses, futons and toppers are packed in an organic cotton bag before being placed in a cardboard carton for storage and then dispatch. Larger size Innerspring Mattresses are also stored in an organic cotton bag before being wrapped in two layers of plastic bag before dispatch.

How will my goods be sent?

Most of our bed linen items are sent via Australia Post; however mattresses and other larger items will be sent by a specialist courier.

How much is freight/postage?

  • For a bed mattress or base … please contact us directly for a quote as these are packaged carefully and sent to you by couriers.

How do I pay?

Once an order is placed you will receive an email listing the various methods in more detail. Cheques and money orders will also be accepted, however the order will take slightly longer to dispatch while we await for confirmation of the clearance of your payment.

Is my payment secure? Is this a safe website?

All orders placed through this website are then handled manually by dealing directly with us over the phone, via email or through the postal system. This helps to give a more personalised and safer service for everyone.

Are your product certified organic?

All of our cotton fillings and fabrics are Certified Organic GOTS by Control Union. We supply a certification statement on each and every invoice. (Refer our blog on Australian textiles certification) Our sewing room and dispatch area has standards even higher than those demanded for certification.

Our sewing room walls are painted with organic paint, our cutting table is made from Australian Hardwood (not MDF or Chipboard) our staff are not allowed to use scented commercial toiletry products, eg. Handcreams, perfume and aftershave and we wrap our products in cellophane or organic cotton, NOT PLASTIC even though wrapping in plastic is allowable under certification standards.

Are your products Fair trade?

From its inception Organic certification has always encompassed fair pay (“fair trade”) and working condition from farm to end product, “Fair Trade “certification does not necessarily encompass organic! All of our products are made here in Australia according to Australian work standards. Our staff work in clean, safe, hygienic working conditions and work for a fair wage. (Apart from which our staff are all family members and would not allow us to get away with anything less.)

Our cotton fabrics and cotton for carded filling are from our “Certified Organic” mill in Indonesia which does all of the spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing.

Are Organature Organic Cotton products fumigated or irradiated?

Our fabrics, filling, garments and other products are NOT fumigated or irradiated.

Do you wholesale?

We import and will wholesale fabrics and towels. Our other products are available to wholesale only under certain circumstance. For further information please contact us directly. We do not supply to ‘online only’ sellers.

What temperature should I wash Organature Organic Cotton products in?

Like ALL cotton products, organic cotton will shrink if washed or tumble dried in temperatures above 40 C. Do not wash or tumble dry above 40 C.

Can I wash my Organature Organic Cotton Quilt or Pillow?

  • Quilts and pillows made with 100% cotton are prone to clump and shrink if they are washed. (Conventional cotton quilts that can be washed will have a portion of polyester and/or chemicals added to make them washable).
  • Any soiling should be removed only with a damp cloth, and bi-carb soda should be used to soak up moisture. Re-apply the bi-carb soda as necessary until the area is mostly dry, and then complete the drying process using a hair dryer, on low setting, not too close to the item and on both sides.
  • Ensure the quilt is fully dried as moisture may allow mould to develop. Hang out to air in sunshine where possible to aid with airing.
  • If very badly soiled you could wash it gently in cold water by squeezing the affected area, (do not use washing machine action), absorb excess wetting with towels as much as possible and hang on line. May also be put in tumble dryer on low setting, tumble for 5-10 minutes, take out, fluff out and repeat until dry.

What if I spill something on my Organature Organic Cotton Mattress?

  • We recommend that you always use an Organature ‘Org-Suede Flannel’ mattress protector. Our mattresses and protectors are not treated with moisture repellent chemicals. Contact us by phone for a hint to avoid wetting penetrating into mattress.
  • Liquid spills should be mopped up with a damp cloth and then blown dry or aired in the sun.
  • If soiled, sprinkle bi-carbonate of soda on the moisture, scrape off with knife, repeat if required, sponge with a ratio of ¼ vinegar and ¾ water solution and dry with hair dryer on BOTH sides.
  • Vacuum and air the mattress and mattress protector regularly to minimize dustmite problems.
  • Protectors are machine washable under 40 C.

Are the Organature Organic Cotton Innerspring or Futon mattresses soft or firm to sleep on?

Cotton, Wool, or any other Natural fibre; Coir, Coconut fibre, Hemp, Bamboo and Kapok Mattresses are typically firmer than synthetic ones. This is because unlike synthetic materials, natural fibres do not have a “memory” and do not return as readily to the original shape.

After initial settling in, (some may feel that it is soft initially), the innerspring mattress will provide you with medium firm to firm mattress. A futon is soft when first received but will become a bit harder as the cotton compresses; a futon style mattress becomes harder than an innerspring.

Unless you have slept on an ALL cotton futon previously please contact us for further information so we can advise you accordingly.

They are also ideal for children and if the budget is a bit tight.

Is there a guarantee on the mattresses?

Providing the advice and recommendations of care have been adhered to, we stand by the quality of our products.
A normal five (5) year warranty is on springs and workmanship of the mattress.

What is used to make the colour in the Organature Organic Cotton fabrics?

Organic certification allows for certain biodegradable/low impact dyes to be used. Organic certification allows oxy, hydrogen peroxide, bleach to provide white fabrics. Although “OB” or Optical Brightener chemicals are permitted to be used under the Global Organic Textiles Standard, (GOTS); they are NOT used on Organature fabrics. OB fabrics and products are sold by some Australian suppliers of Organic Cotton Bed linen and Bedding products.

Chemicals and chlorine bleaches used in non-organic textiles stiffens fabrics and the additional use of chemicals, such as ‘Formaldehyde’ necessitate the use of yet more chemicals to re soften them. These chemicals are like ultra violet light and can reduce the quality of the cotton fibre and shorten the life span.

What is the Thread Count on your fabrics?

Don’t be misled by the “Thread Count” fallacy. Thread count is NOT an indication of the quality of the fabrics. A high thread count can be obtained with a thin yarn/thread, and a lower thread count can be obtained with a thicker yarn/thread.

The high thread count made with a thinner yarn creates a thinner fabric which is therefore not as durable. “Thread Count” is a marketing tool (mainly used in Australia), to confuse the public about the quality of the fabric.

Some manufacturers claim their fabric has a thread count of 250, 400, even 1000 or more. This relates to the number of threads woven over a square portion of fabric.

But does this square relate to a square cm. inch? Or maybe 10cm? Or even 10 inches ? Mostly, this information is simply not disclosed! “Thread Count” has no bearing on the softness of the fabric.

The true test of the quality of the fabric is in the quality of the yarn. The important thing is the type of yarn used and the gsm. (grams per square meter) Before weaving, our Organature Organic cotton has the short fibres removed, meaning you get nothing but a good quality fabric which, as our customers repeatedly tell us is “really beautiful”.

Is the Organature Organic Cotton Cot Mattress approved by SIDS Foundation?

As far as we can ascertain ‘SIDS’ has never indicated the possibility of chemicals as a cause. We believe chemicals (among other causes) have a very strong bearing on these “sudden deaths”.

Our mattresses have been on the market now the last 6 plus years and we continuously receive positive comments and testimonials. They do start a little softer than conventional foam and rubber mattresses but they do not contain chemicals and are thus far healthier for your baby. As cotton does not have a ‘memory’, it does not bounce back. The surface will become firmer with regular turning of the mattress. Your baby is not heavy and will not sink into the mattress to the extent you would when pressing on the top with your hands.

How Do I Care For My New Organic Mattress Or Futon?

To allow for proper air circulation, for increased effectiveness of the health benefits gained when using these certified organic products on a daily basis and to prevent mould and mildew forming, your organic cotton mattress/futon should always be placed on a good quality slat bed base.

We strongly recommend that you use one of our natural timber slat bed bases in conjunction with your organic cotton mattress, which has been custom made in a healthy environment from Australian plantation hardwood.

NO glues are used in our low bed bases, and NO fumigation processes have taken place.

Mattress protectors are also recommended to save your innerspring mattress or futon from direct spills and soiling.

How Do I Assemble My New Bed Base

All Organature mattress and bed bases are supplied in a convenient flat pack which is very easy to assemble. Instructions are provided. It takes less than 5 minutes to set up completely – no nails no screws, and generally no glue has been used, though there may be a minimal amount of non-toxic glue used in the joints of some of our taller beds.

Should I Paint My Bed Base?

The slats should really NOT be varnished or painted. The wooden bed bases are supplied in raw timber that’s been sanded smooth to further protect those with sensitivities and allergies. As an option, a “Plant Base Oil Finish” can be applied if you prefer at an extra charge. Should you wish to apply an organic varnish yourself, we suggest that you contact http://www.livos.com.au/

Can I Use My New Organic Mattress On An Old Bed Base?

Please DO NOT USE imported timber and timber products (which are most likely fumigated) with your pure organic cotton mattress. We also DO NOT recommend the use of pine due to the high content of terpenes (turpentine). DO NOT use chipboard, MDF or plywood either, or you are decreasing the chances of experiencing the real HEALTH BENEFITS associated with purchasing a pure organic cotton mattress in the first place.

Please contact us directly if you feel you would like to have further information. We’re more than happy to guide you in the most suitable direction for you.
