Our Solution To Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Flooring - A Review Of Different Types Of Timber
Share
Earlier this year we moved shops and needed to source THE HEALTHIEST FLOORING WE COULD FIND. You see, we are thoughtful about everything we use in our bodies, on our bodies and around us in our environments. So when it came to flooring we picked something with really low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). On top of that Peter (our founder) had them airing for months before laying! This helps to out-gas extra components in the material that could make even the healthiest of us feel a bit "off".
WHAT'S WRONG WITH CONVENTIONAL PRODUCTS: We already knew that High VOCs, like phosphorus, arsenic and antimony, and nerve toxins like formaldehyde, benzene and toluene are frequently present in conventional mattresses and bedding. Whether they be in the petroleum based, Polyethylene Foam, the petroleum and chlorine based Vinyl or PVC used for waterproofing (a known carcinogen, let alone, one of the most environmentally unfriendly plastics used today), or the petroleum based Fire Retardants … separately or together … they make up a toxic soup that is linked to immune suppression, hormone disruption, developmental delays, learning and memory problems, behavior changes, and cancer.
SLEEP BETTER – FEEL BETTER: Additives used in mainstream flooring and bedding may not be harmful to the health of the general population, but it’s especially important that people who are already susceptible to allergies, asthma, eczema, attention deficit, depression or other sensitivities, reduce their exposure to toxins (usually ones you can’t even smell). We know that removing chemicals from your sleeping environment is essential for optimizing your body’s ability to rejuvenate itself.
That's why we're so fussy about how our stock is manufactured, what our stock is made from, where our stock is stored and even how it's transported.

I'm chemically sensitive! What flooring is best when I renovate my home?
Peter is chemically sensitive too (in fact he is triggered by Multiple Chemical Sensitivities - MCS) and is careful about what materials are used, and ALSO in what he recommends to others. So many people have asked questions about what are SAFE PRODUCTS FOR RENOVATING A HOME for those who are particularly health conscious or sensitive to chemicals, that we thought it important to cover his short answers here. We hope this helps you, or someone you know
