What Does GOTS Stand For And What Does Being 'GOTS Certified' Mean?
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It is recognised as the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres worldwide. It defines the highest level environmental and social standards.
The aim of the standard is to define requirements to ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.
Only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres can become certified according to GOTS. All chemical inputs e.g. dyestuffs and auxiliaries used must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria and also the choice of accessories is limited under ecological aspects. A functional waste water treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with social minimum criteria.

How Will My Goods Be Packaged?
We wrap all of our bed linen in true biodegradable cellophane, (cellulose film), not plastic that looks like cellophane. As so many people these days suffer with petrochemical sensitivities we try to avoid plastic products wherever it is possible to do so.
Our pillows, quilts, mattresses, futons and toppers are packed in an organic cotton bag before being placed in a cardboard carton for storage and then dispatch. Larger size Innerspring Mattresses are also stored in an organic cotton bag before being wrapped in two layers of plastic bag before dispatched.
All ‘Organature’ items transported by freight are triple packed for weather protection. Firstly in an organic calico bag, then plastic bag followed by the outer carton. Other goods are packed, firstly in an organic cotton bag or in true cellulose film depending on product, then the outer carton or heavy duty paper
Are Your Products Vegan?
Yes, our products are Vegan. We do not use animal ingredients or exploit animals in any way during the transportation or manufacture of our products: no meat, milk, eggs, honey, wool, goose down, or leather is ever used.
Are Your Products Fair Trade?
From its inception Organic certification has always encompassed fair pay (“fair trade”) and working conditions from farm to end product.
When “Organic certification commenced”, first in Europe, during the 1990’s it also encompassed, fair pay, fair conditions for all workers.
This later became FairTrade as a separate identity.
The exporter/mill from where we purchase our organic cotton fabrics, filling and other items has what they call a ‘Scope’ certificate.
This certificate, which has to be renewed every year, is issued by a ‘Certifier’ under GOTS after inspection of premises, work and workers conditions.
Paper trails have to shown to verify that movement from mill to mill is performed under the GOTStandard.
We receive a copy of that Scope certificate.
For every invoice/shipment we receive certificates referring to the items on the invoice issued by that same Certifier.
The main mill we deal with have their ‘in house’ sewers and inspection QC.
Our cotton fabrics and cotton for carded filling are from our “Certified Organic” mill in India which does all of the spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing.
I have been there three times in the last 5 years of trading with them and have also visited the mills where ‘input’ is being produced.
The premises are clean, just as good as we have in our own premises, the workers look healthy, happy, well dressed and better than in a lot of Australian work places.
Organature having supplied the Australian consumer for the last 15 years, receiving many new clients and repeat orders should tell us that the raw materials and products we receive from India and we produce in Australia are up to the Organic Certification standard.
“Fair Trade “certification does not necessarily encompass organic! All of our products are made here in Australia according to Australian work standards. Our staff work in clean, safe, hygienic working conditions and work for a fair wage.
Can I Layby?
Yes! Our layby terms are a 10% or no less than a $100 deposit on ordering and then fortnightly payments are required with the balance to be paid within 12 weeks. To set the layby up, please place your order online and then choose bank transfer as the payment option. You will then be given our banking details for a direct transfer to our account using your ORG order number as your reference. Please also use your ORG order number as a your reference when making further payments. When placing your order, put in customer notes that you wish to pay this order via layby.
We are able to accept laybys for our furniture and custom made mattresses, but as these are made to order, we would require the payment in full, prior to making these products. *Please note that usual time frames to make these products, will still apply once the payment in full is received.
Is There a Guarantee or Warranty On The Mattress or Bed Bases?
There is no paper guarantee, however, we strongly stand by our products and we know that the mattresses will last at least 9 years, as our oldest one is now that age. The workmanship and manufacturing will last as long as any conventional mattress, providing every care is taken with it, and all instructions for caring for your mattress are followed.
All Mattresses, Bed Bases and Timber Furniture is covered by Warranty according to the ACCC (Click here to go to ACCC website). There is no additional Warranty supplied by Organature as customers are well protected by ACCC Warranty.
Please speak to us about any concerns you may have.
Do you sell and ship outside Australia?
As a rule Organature products and pricing is for Australian sales and delivery only. We may be able to arrange for items suitable for standard postage to be sent to some overseas countries. Please contact us to see what we can do for you.
Do You Wholesale?
We DO NOT wholesale – we sell direct at Wholesale Prices.
Organature® supplies goods to many people who are so sick from chemicals in the environment, they cannot work, and therefore Peter tries to keep prices as low as possible to make it affordable for them. This does not leave room for a retail margin.
As a ‘Made in Australia’ company who work thoughtfully and hygienically to keep our products as pure as possible for this very reason, we have higher overheads than imported products made using cheap labour, and who don’t rate careful handling, packaging and transporting to keep goods as chemical-free as possible, as a priority.
Can I Get Samples of Fabrics, Colours and wood and stain samples?
YES. Just send us a message and we will post them out to you promptly.
Are the Organature Organic Cotton Innerspring or Futon Mattresses Soft Or Firm To Sleep On?
Cotton, Wool, or any other Natural fibre; Coir, Coconut fibre, Hemp, Bamboo and Kapok Mattresses are typically firmer than synthetic ones. This is because unlike synthetic materials, natural fibres do not have a “memory” and do not return as readily to the original shape.
After initial settling in, (some may feel that it is soft initially), the innerspring mattress will provide you with medium firm to firm mattress. A futon is soft when first received but will become harder as the cotton compresses; a futon style mattress becomes harder than an innerspring.
Unless you have slept on an ALL cotton futon previously please contact us for further information so we can advise you accordingly.
They are also ideal for children and if the budget is a bit tight.
Are The Cot Mattresses Safe For Babies?
Yes. And we believe this cot mattress can also reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The Organature® Cot Innerspring Organic Baby Mattress has a 100% Safety Record.
- For the best start possible, avoid using conventional bedding no matter how ‘natural’ the retailer claim it to be, unless it is certified organic to conform with Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS).
Don’t sleep them on conventional cots, cradles, trundles or beds that are imported from other countries or made from imported timber (all must be fumigated before arriving in the country).
- Beware of toxic glues, paints and finishes. They might not (noticeably) negatively effect an adult, but all these chemicals produce a gas that most of us get so accustomed to smelling, we forget it’s even there.
Organature® works to European Organic Standards, as Australian and U.S. certifications are not good enough for Peter, our founder, who for many years suffered severely from M.C.S. (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity). He now only produces and supplies products that are safe for his own use, and those he has fully researched. We go to enormous lengths to provide you with these genuinely cleaner, healthier, chemical free goods. It all comes from a very personal level.
Is the Organature Organic Cotton Cot Mattress Approved By SIDS Foundation?
As far as we can ascertain the SIDS Foundation has never indicated the possibility of chemicals as a cause. We believe chemicals (among other causes) have a very strong bearing.
Our mattresses have been on the market now since 2004 and we continuously receive positive comments and testimonials. They do start a little softer than conventional foam and rubber mattresses but they do not contain chemicals and are thus far healthier for your baby. As cotton does not have a ‘memory’, it does not bounce back. The surface will become firmer with regular turning of the mattress. Your baby is not heavy and will not sink into the mattress to the extent you would when pressing on the top with your hands.
